Red Light Ban Hits Roadblock

A Senate bill that would ban the automated cameras has stalled in the Transportation Committee.
Miami-Dade Commissioner Sally Hayman says those cameras are saving lives and lawmakers should leave them alone.
"Red light cameras reduce red light accidents and infractions and that frees up our law enforcement officers," she said.
Hers was not the lone voice of opposition, either.
The bill ran into a solid wall of opposition in the committee.
The sponsor of the red light ban offered several amendments to try to make the bill more palatable, but it didn't work.
Technically, the bill to ban red light cameras is still alive... but realistically, it's been run off the road and isn't going anywhere this year.
