Environmentalists across the state say its time for the politicians to get serious about cleaning up Florida's waterways.

David Guest, with EarthJustice, says green algae is becoming commonplace throughout the state.

"There is a crisis in the state of Florida with toxic algae all over the state," he said. "When you touch it, you have to use a hazmat suit because it's so dangerous."

Guest was speaking on the steps of the state capitol, but there were simultaneous events at 15 other cities.

Those events all had the same message: Florida needs clean water ... and polluters have to clean up their act.
