SPRING HILL, FLA. -- Authorities in Spring Hill say a man walking his dog called them after hearing a shotgun blast from a passing jeep.
Investigators said the man who saw the jeep and heard the gunfire was able to identify the vehicle for deputies, and the jeep was searched.
Investigators said they found four shotgun shells and a 12-gauge shotgun in the vehicle.
The jeep was parked at a local residence, and investigators said their suspect, Patrick Murphy, was there.
During interviews of the people at the residence, suspect Murphy, 19, admitted that he had discharged the shotgun into the air while he, his girlfriend and two other people were in the moving vehicle.
Deputies said Murphy told them he'd fired the weapon because he wanted to impress his girlfriend.
He said nobody in the jeep had any idea that there had been anyone else out.
Murphy was charged with setting off a firearm, in public, from a moving vehicle.
