TALLAHASSEE, FLA. -- Republican George LeMieux is dropping out of the race for the US Senate.

In a video posted on You Tube, LeMieux says he's quitting the campaign because he can't match Connie Mack's money and his GOP rival refuses to debate.

"It is not my nature to step aside, but there is a reality to running a statewide race in Florida," he said. "Without the resources, or the opportunity to debate, our message simply cannot be heard."

The video also includes a reluctant endorsement of Mack, saying he's the candidate who has the best chance to defeat democrat Bill Nelson and help republicans win control of the US Senate.

The endorsement, reluctant though it may be, comes from a man who once described Connie Mack as "the Charlie Sheen of politics," and who said the nomination of Mack in the race was the most certain route to a victory for Bill Nelson.
