CLEARWATER, FLA. -- The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are investigating a boat wreck early Sunday morning that injured nine people.
Three were taken to Tampa Bay area hospitals.
Authorities say the crash happened around 3 a.m. at Clearwater Pass. The boat apparently crashed into the jetty. All nine occupants were thrown into the water.
Someone on another vessel reported the accident.
Clearwater Police and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene.
According to a report, the injured people complained of back pain. One person suffered a broken wrist.
Authorities with the FWC have stressed the need for people to wear life jackets, and this episode stands as a strong reminder that the waterways can be as dangerous as the highways.
