According to the latest AAA Fuel Price Brief, Florida drivers are paying an average price of $3.26 for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline. Gas prices fell by six cents from last week.
The national average is currently $3.42 per gallon, down from $3.50 a week ago.
Tampa-based AAA South spokesperson Jessica Brady says fear over the economy is driving oil and gas prices down even further.
On Friday, crude oil closed below $80 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Oil hasn't traded at that price in nearly a year. U.S. oil stockpiles are also at their highest levels in more than 20 years.
Brady says gas prices are likely to continue falling.
"At this point, retail gasoline prices are forecast to continue their decline into the heart of the summer travel season," said Brady. "Even if economic stimulus measures are put into place, it's going to take time for a recovery and demand numbers to rebound. While it's not good news that has caused oil and gas prices to fall, it does provide relief to motorists who expected to pay $4 or more for a gallon of gas this summer."
