ORLANDO, FLA. -- President Obama has said he personally has reached the point where he believes same sex couples should be able to get married.

A Florida political analyst, Aubrey Jewett, says the declaration will grab headlines ... but it won't change many votes.

"Clearly, social conservatives are against gay marriage," he said. "The vast majority of them would not have voted for Obama, anyway."

On the other hand, social liberals, who support gay marriage, would have voted for Obama.

As usual, the independent and swing voters hold most of the cards here, according to Jewett, who adds that the president's statement may help him in some swing states and harm him in others.

Jewett said Florida was one of those states where the statement could do some damage to the chief executive's campaign.

But Jewett also said that, for the vast majority of voters, the issue of same-sex marriage was way down on the list of priorities; and for most of these voters, it would not be the make-or-break issue.

Jewett said most voters were more interest in the economy, jobs, and paychecks ... and in at least keeping their heads above water on those issues.
