TALLAHASSEE, FLA. -- President Barack Obama has declared a major disaster area for the state of Florida.
The declaration this week comes in the wake of Tropical Storm Debby, which delivered too much of a good thing to parts of the state.
Some areas of Florida got pounded by hard rain and flooding, and the declaration will help the residents and businesses of those areas drain away their troubles more quickly.
The declaration orders federal help for people in Baker, Bradford, Columbia, Pasco, ans Wakulla counties.
That assistance takes the shape of everything from grants for home repairs and temporary housing to low interest loans to cover uninsured losses.
Other assistance will help small business owners whose livelihood was impacted by flooding from Debby.
Agents of FEMA say they are checking the toll on other areas of the state, and say they could be adding more regions to the disaster declaration.
