I have been working with my foliage plants this month Some needed trimming and mainly the removal of old plant portions. But one question I have been getting and I am sure they have too is how about repotting. Is now a good time an how should it be done.
Well, it is pretty easy to tell if your plant needs repotting. The roots fill the container and may be growing out from the bottom. Some plants like holiday cactus seldom need repotting they like to be a bit cramped for space. Now, when you plant does need repotting select a container 1 to 2 inches larger in diameter. You don't want too big a container for a small plant. If too big you often over water and cause root rot.
Once you have that new container pick a good potting soil. You want one that is loose and well drained but hold some moisture.. Try to find one with a little added fertilizer. This mix helps regulate the water to your plants and can feed them for up to 6 months. That takes a lot of work out of plant care
And if your plants do not need repotting don't forget they could probably use some fertilizer. You might want to pickup and use one of the slow release plant foods. Just follow the label to make foliage plant care easy.
