DELAND, FLA. -- Vandalism and theft from several Volusia County churches turned out to be nothing more than a series of blurred, alcohol-fogged memories for one man.

That's according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office

Adam David Shaw was responsible for smashing the windows and spray-painting the walls of at least four DeLand-area churches over the course of two recent weekends, deputies said.

Shaw is now in custody, and facing a long list of charges.

Deputies said they were able to trace Shaw to one incident through fingerprints.

They found him at home and questioned him, according to a release.

Shaw admitted to striking several churches; however, he had been drunk when he committed the crimes and so had trouble remembering the details of what he did and where he was.

Deputies said a careful review of his actions finally provided enough information to add more charges to his list.

The Sheriff's Office has charged Shaw with five counts of burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, five counts of criminal mischief and two counts of grand theft. The charges relate to a total of five separate incidents at three churches.

The DeLand Police Department has also charged Shaw in at least one church vandalism in their jurisdiction at First Assembly of God, 551 S. Kepler Road. The charges are burglary and criminal mischief.
